Design Day

Design Day Demand Forecasting

Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) need to know how much gas their customers will demand on their design day. The definition of design day varies from LDC to LDC, but it is typically a planning concept-the highest flow day gas operations must handle. For most LDCs this is an extreme cold weather event. LDCs must design their natural gas distribution systems' capacity to meet the anticipated demand.

Days with near-design day weather conditions occur infrequently; for example, once every ten years.

Customer demand characteristics change over time. If a near-design day has not occurred recently or has occurred on a weekend or near a holiday, the flow used on the last near-design day may not be a good representation of the demand on a near-design day that may occur next winter.
Customized to LDC Requirements

A GasDay Design Day Analysis can either use an LDCs trusted design day weather conditions, or we can 'design' peak day conditions based on an area's weather history.

GasDay Design Day Analyses are intended to serve as a trusted forecast of an LDCs natural gas demand under design day weather conditions. Our studies are intended to be a valuable tool at the disposal of natural gas planners developing design day estimates for their LDC.
